A 5-year-old girl was found to have cyanosis on two occasions of urinary tract infection, in the setting of chronic constipation. The child had a history of intake of sulfur medications.
On her second admission to the hospital, sulfhemoglobinemia was confirmed. A pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (AVM) was incidentally found in this patient who had a normal PAO2, thus not hypoxemic, though cyanotic.
How should this patient be treated?
